With a floorspace of 750 m2, the extension, partially submerged below ground, serves as the primary entrance to both the headquarters and the volunteer center, providing a welcoming gateway for the 34,000 volunteers dedicated to serving marginalized citizens across Denmark.
Architectural Integration
Designed in collaboration with volunteers, the Red Cross Volunteer House seamlessly integrates into its surroundings, paying homage to the unique character of the area. The spectacular sloping roof and stairway pay tribute to adjacent landmarks such as the Fælledparken park and the Danish Freemasons’ Hall, while harmonizing with the yellow-brick facade of the Red Cross headquarters. This distinctive architectural feature has transformed into a vibrant community space, attracting volunteers, staff, and locals alike, who gather for meetings, leisure activities, and socializing.
Versatile Interior Spaces
Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by a shared arrival area, fostering a sense of unity between the volunteer center and the headquarters. To the left, the Volunteer House unfolds into an expansive terraced stand and auditorium, capable of accommodating over 100 individuals. Descending from this space, a series of conference rooms offer versatile venues for training sessions, meetings, events, and cultural activities. The interconnected design ensures seamless navigation between the original building and the new extension, fostering collaboration and camaraderie.
