A tragic incident at a restaurant in Walt Disney World Resort has led to a lawsuit alleging negligence, following the death of a New York doctor with severe allergies.
The Incident
Kanokporn Tangsuan, a family doctor, lost her life to anaphylaxis after dining at Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant in Disney Springs on October 5. Despite diligent efforts to ensure her safety by communicating her allergies to the restaurant staff, Tangsuan suffered a severe allergic reaction after consuming a meal she believed to be allergen-free.
Allegations of Negligence
The lawsuit, filed by Tangsuan’s husband, Jeffrey J. Piccolo, accuses both Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant of negligence. It contends that despite Tangsuan and Piccolo’s repeated inquiries about allergens and assurances from the wait staff, the restaurant failed to adequately address Tangsuan’s dietary restrictions.
Tragic Outcome
Tangsuan, along with her husband and mother-in-law, chose the restaurant believing it would accommodate her allergies. However, shortly after the meal, Tangsuan began experiencing a severe allergic reaction while shopping at Disney Springs. Despite efforts to administer emergency treatment, she tragically passed away.
Legal Action
Piccolo seeks damages exceeding $50,000 under the Florida Wrongful Death Act, alongside compensation for loss of companionship, mental anguish, lost income, and medical and funeral expenses. The lawsuit contends that the restaurant’s negligence, including inadequate staff training and failure to provide allergen-free options, directly contributed to Tangsuan’s death.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the lawsuit. However, the legal action underscores the importance of ensuring the safety of patrons with allergies and the potential consequences of negligence in accommodating their needs.
